GOES-13 first visible image
2006-06-22 19:52 | Permanent Link | LocativeI just got email from Howard Diamond at NOAA saying that the first visible image from GOES-N, launched on May 24 is available.
He quotes Greg Withee at NOAA - "I am pleased to share with you the first official image from the GOES-13 satellite. This image was received today at 1:30 pm EDT. GOES-13 was launched on May 24, 2006, at 6:11 p.m., EDT. On June 4, GOES-N was renamed GOES-13 upon reaching its final orbit. GOES-13 is undergoing a six month check-out. We are thankful for the hard work by the entire NOAA, NASA, and Boeing teams in getting GOES-13 ready to assume its place in the GOES satellite constellation that provides continuous critical data for severe weather forecasts and warnings."
I have a copy of the image here: GOES-13 First Image
