Dream Job
2007-09-14 20:47 | Permanent Link | General, MuseumI have a new job - Director of Technology at the MIT Museum! I'm pretty excited about this. I feel like a kid in a candy store. I've been consulting for the Museum on the MWOW project for quite some time now. The Museum has a great staff and a great mission, so when this opportunity came up, it was not to be missed!
I'm going to be pretty busy at first, helping out with the ground floor expansion (the Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery), which is opening with a 2-day bash on September 29th and 30th. There are going to be some underwater ROV's from Woods Hole, complete with an ROV simulator used to train operators how to "drive" the things around. There will be some concept cars called the City Car that were designed at the MIT Media Lab, and there will be some neat machines built by Claude Shannon.
Once things calm down, I'll continue working on the MIT Museum Without Walls project, so I'm not leaving the geo world behind!
This new job is one of the reasons I had to drop out of the FOSS4G2007 conference. I wish I could be there. I'll miss each of the 600 or so people Paul expects will show up! I do plan to be part of the OSGeo scene with Chris Schmidt's new Boston OSGeo group.
Also, if you know of any good museum tech blogs, let me know!
